Flatglass FAQ

Frequent Asked Questions

To begin the installation process, your windows are thoroughly cleaned to ensure that even the smallest debris are removed. Next, a custom piece of film is cut to the size specific to your window. An application solution is sprayed onto your window, and the film is then mounted into place on the glass.

Tint goes on the inside. At first, the film will be laid on the window and then cut to fit the right shape. Then, it will be installed to the inside of the windows.

Cure time refers to the drying time of the leftover application solution after an install. Typically this is 30-60 days depending on the temperature and season. Window film is installed year round – and just as popular in the fall to summer months. While we try to get all of the solution off after every application, it is nearly impossible. Therefore, the cure time depends on the film type and drying time of the remaining solution. While this is happening, it is still performing to its full capabilities, but you might see bubbles, haze, streaks, or other visual defects while drying. Don’t be alarmed! This is completely normal while the remaining solution evaporates.. Additionally, the cure time can vary given different circumstances. If it’s a hot summer day, the film might be cured in a few days. On the other hand, if it’s a chilly winter day the curing process might last a few weeks or more. During the cure time, it’s normal to see bubbles, streaks.other micro visual defects. On occasion, micro specs or debris trapped will not effect the performance, as a dust free environment is nearly impossible.

Once windows are tinted, wait a week before cleaning them.
Cleaning them too soon can mess up the tint before it fully dries. After they are tinted, your windows will have been wiped down, but will likely need proper cleaning with a soft paper towel and non-ammonia cleaner after 7 days. No windex or harsh abrasive cleaners. Our favorite option is 30% IPO alcohol mixed with water to make a quick drying solution paired with a fine microfiber cloth, similar to cleaning eye glasses.

Our home tinting installations offer a lifetime warranty on the material against bubble, peeling or color changing on all solar films. Decorative, specialty and security films are rated per product our specialists can discuss in person. For commercial installations most of our solar films carry a 15 year warranty. These are not transferable to the new owner of property. For new or used windows with an active warranty on record with details – we can offer an affordable no-risk warranty that we can discuss that will cover you for the duration of your manufacturer warranty. We carry the only product in the industry that will lend you a piece of mind for your windows to be tinted without worry. Our tint specialists can discuss any further details regarding this. Rest assured, we choose the proper film for best longevity and safety on your glass that is approved by the manufacturer.
